A hand for a fireplace

A few weeks ago, we worked on selecting the perfect piece for the chimney of this beautifully renovated home by @vanessemam in Toronto. It's always a pleasure collaborating with Vanessa and Flor. Thank you again for trusting @collection_art_services.

The artwork is by a deaf Iranian female artist whose journey as a deaf adult is central to her work. After being trained to communicate orally and aurally during childhood, she discovered American Sign Language upon moving to Canada, which allowed her to connect deeply with her identity as a deaf woman. Her work reflects this profound transition. She says: 'I wish others to see what I see — the richness and beauty of our signs and lives.'

Collection Art Services gratefully acknowledges that we operate on the traditional territory of many Indigenous Nations. For years, the area known as Tkaronto (Toronto) has been care-taken by the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities. DAG also acknowledges that Tkaronto is covered by Treaty 13, signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit and the Williams Treaties. This territory is subject to the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement to peaceably share and care for the Great Lakes region.
