We spent a remarkable week in Miami at the beginning of December. It was an intense and inspiring time—meeting collectors, curators, and artists from all over the world, while also acquiring works on behalf of our clients.
Of course, there was the beach, the sunshine, and the warm weather—but above all, there was an extraordinary diversity of artistic propositions and a strong sense of commitment from both artists and gallerists. This clearly demonstrated how dynamic the art market is, not only in Florida but across the United States and Latin America.
We found ourselves speaking Spanish most of the time (almost 70%!) with collectors and buyers who, although based in Miami, largely came from Latin American countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Peru, and Ecuador.
What stood out was the breadth of the market: private collectors were actively acquiring works priced under USD 10,000, while major galleries were also closing multimillion-dollar sales of blue-chip pieces. Leading institutions were present as well, purchasing works to support and strengthen the market. For galleries, selecting which artists to bring to the fairs was a crucial and strategic decision.
Having a booth at an art fair is like placing a bet—you never know which number will come up. Yet it comes with an electrifying energy, a feeling only those who take the risk truly understand.
Miami is undeniably the place to be from December 2 to 8. We sincerely hope to return next year. In the meantime, we will continue working to place some of these exciting propositions into collections in Mexico and Canada.
